The brass at Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have sprung into life, amid mounting reports linking defensive star Nico Schlotterbeck with a move to Spain with Barcelona.
That’s according to Diario Sport, citing German outlet BILD, who have on Wednesday provided the latest on the situation.
The name of stopper Schlotterbeck has emerged as an altogether prominent one in the Spanish media chatter over recent days.
This comes amid the understanding that those in the boardroom at Barcelona have earmarked the German as a future transfer target.
Schlotterbeck, as things stand, is due to see his contract terms at Signal Iduna Park expire in 2027, meaning he could be available for a cut-price fee next summer.
Dortmund, though, have not given up hope of keeping their defensive stalwart just yet.
As per a report from Sport:
‘Bild claims that Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, has contacted the player’s entourage to offer him a significant salary increase. The centre-back is now earning around 2.5 million euros per season and the German club proposes to receive a maximum of 8 million.’
