Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an insight into the current fight for places in his midfield setup.
This of course comes fresh off the Blaugrana being dealt a fresh blow on the personnel front.
After he was forced to pull out of training in midweek owing to an injury, ensuing medical tests confirmed that Barca will be forced to make do without Frenkie de Jong for the next five to six weeks.
Pedri, just back from his own spell on the sidelines, will in turn be relied upon heavily once more over the weeks ahead.
Just who, though, is set to partner the Spanish international at the base of Barcelona’s engine room?
On Saturday, against Villarreal, youngster Marc Bernal was chosen to join Dani Olmo in a two-man setup, behind Fermín López.
Speaking to the media post-match, Hansi Flick was therefore drawn on the ongoing battle for minutes between Bernal and teammate Marc Casadó.
And the German tactician was honest as ever, in explaining:
“Casa was struggling; he missed training for a day. But yes, Bernie is a little ahead for now. I’m very happy with Bernie, he has scored goals and he has played very well in recent matches.”
