Portuguese heavyweights Benfica have submitted a complaint to UEFA regarding the conduct of Real Madrid star Federico Valverde in this week’s meeting between the clubs.
This comes owing to an incident involving the Uruguayan, and Samuel Dahl.
Real Madrid and Benfica of course locked horns on the continent on Tuesday night, in a Champions League playoff clash.
When all was said and done, the former emerged on the right side of a 1-0 result.
The fixture, however, was marred by a number of unsavoury incidents, most notably Vinícius Jr. informing the team of officials of racist abuse on the part of Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni.
It is another incident entirely, however, which has grabbed the headlines on Thursday.
As per a report from El Chiringuito TV, amongst others:
‘Benfica have filed a complaint with UEFA over Valverde’s violent conduct. The reason? The incident involving Samuel Dahl which could have resulted in a red card for the Uruguayan.’
Whilst Dahl attempted to halt Valverde’s progress down the wing, the Real Madrid man swung his right arm towards Dahl’s head.
The level of contact made was difficult to gauge based off footage of the exchange, but many are of the opinion that Valverde was deserving of a red card.
