Benfica chief speaks on Real Madrid’s Carreras pursuit: ‘We’ll see..’

Benfica president Rui Costa has this week spoken out on the ongoing speculation linking star defender Álvaro Carreras with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

The name of Spaniard Carreras has of course taken its place centre stage in the media headlines in his home country over recent weeks.

This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that new Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso had identified the 22-year-old as the perfect addition to his squad for next season.

An agreement with Benfica, in turn, was not expected to be long in being found.

To date, though, no such accord has been forthcoming, culminating in mounting concern amongst those of a Real Madrid persuasion.

And as alluded to above, on Wednesday, such supporters have been afforded an update on the situation.

Speaking to the media on the back of his side booking their spot in the knockout phase of the Club World Cup, Benfica president Rui Costa was drawn on Los Blancos’ Carreras’ chase.

And the former midfielder, in quotes secured by Marca, went on to explain:

“They should make us an offer. None have come so far. If they do, we’ll see what happens…”
