Bayern Munich opt to not exercise purchase option for Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho

Bayern Munich have not activated their purchase option for Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho and the clause has now expired, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has told Der Spiegel.

Coutinho joined Bayern on a season-long loan deal from Barca at the start of the current season, though Rummenigge did not close the door on the Brazilian.

The option expired and we haven’t activated it. We’re going to plan our squad for next season and we’ll see if he still has a role to play with us or not.”

The 27-year-old has scored eight goals and provided six assists in 22 Bundesliga matches for Bayern this season.
