Bayern Munich join Barcelona in hunt for Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi

German champions Bayern Munich have joined the hunt for a headline member of the midfield setup at Real Sociedad, according to reports.

The player in question? Martín Zubimendi.

Zubimendi, of course, has long been regarded as one of, if not the finest deep-lying midfielder in La Liga.

Barcelona, for one, are long-term admirers of the 24-year-old, tipped as a potential future successor to Sergio Busquets.

A number of Premier League clubs have also been linked with Zubimendi in the past, with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal understood to be keeping a close eye on his situation in San Sebastián.

And now, as alluded to above, yet another of European football’s heavyweights appear to have joined the hunt for his signature.

As per a report from Bild, via Mundo Deportivo, Bayern Munich have identified Zubimendi as a ‘priority’ target for the January transfer window.

The Bavarians remain on the hunt for reinforcements at the base of Thomas Tuchel’s midfield, after missing out on Fulham star Joao Palhinha during the summer.

Zubimendi, for his part, remains fully committed to the Real Sociedad cause, but could see both his and the club’s hand alike forced, in the case of Bayern activating his €60 million release clause.
