Barcelona’s starting XI to face Girona as Raphinha misses out

Barcelona’s lineup for the clash at Montilivi sees Xavi opting for continuity with just one change. He favours four pure midfielders in his side to face Girona.

Xavi’s chosen XI for the match closely resembles the lineup against Valencia. Marc-André ter Stegen lines up between the sticks, with Pau Cubarsí and Ronald Araujo anchoring the defence, flanked by João Cancelo on the left and Jules Koundé on the right.

Andreas Christensen, deployed from centre-back to defensive midfield, resumes his role ahead of the defence, supported by Ilkay Gündogan and Sergi Roberto, a new addition to the starting lineup. Fermín López moves forward to replace Raphinha, completing the midfield alongside Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski.

Raphinha’s omission comes despite his strong form in recent weeks, with 10 goal contributions in his last 11 games.

Xavi’s decision to field four pure midfielders aims to stifle Michel’s side in their fierce battle for the league’s second spot.

If Xavi’s men are able to beat Girona on Saturday afternoon, their place in the Super Cup is all but confirmed.
