Barcelona’s Pau Cubarsí set for maiden Spain call-up

Barcelona sensation Pau Cubarsí is set to be included in the upcoming Spanish national team squad.

That’s according to Diario AS, who have this evening provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in the Spain camp.

The name of stopper Cubarsí, of course, has found itself front and centre in the headlines in not only his home country, but across the entirety of Europe over the last 24 hours.

This comes after the gifted starlet was afforded his first-ever appearance in continental competition.

Trusted with a starting berth at the heart of Xavi’s backline for the 2nd leg of Barcelona’s Champions League Last-16 showdown with Italian champions Napoli, Cubarsí enjoyed a night to remember.

Shining on both sides of the ball, and keeping the ever-dangerous Victor Osimhen uncharacteristically quiet in the process, the La Masia youth product secured for himself deserved Man of the Match honours at Montjuïc.

And if the latest word stemming from the media on Wednesday is anything to go by, then Cubarsí’s whirlwind week looks unlikely to end there.

As per the aforementioned AS:

‘The Barcelona leadership is aware that the 17-year-old centre-back will receive his first call from the National Team in two days.’

Cubarsí, in turn, is expected to be afforded his international bow in one of La Roja’s upcoming friendly meetings with Colombia, and Brazil.
