Barcelona’s ‘completed’ deal for Atlético Madrid youngster now denied

Denials have surfaced in the Spanish media early this week, regarding Barcelona’s alleged deal for an up-and-coming member of the defensive ranks at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Monday provided an insight into the situation.

For those who may have missed it, reports began to do the rounds in Spain last week, pointing towards Barcelona having a deal lined up to land youngster Gerónimo Spina.

A highly-regarded 20-year-old central defender, the Blaugrana were said to have convinced Spina to leave Atlético Madrid behind, to commit to terms in Catalunya’s capital.

As alluded to above, however, if ensuing word doing the rounds this week is anything to go by, then no such transfer should be expected before the summer is out.

As per a report from MD:

‘Barcelona have their sights set on Argentinian centre-back Gerónimo Spina, but the Blaugrana will not pursue his signing this summer unless there is a change of direction in the final days of the transfer market.’
