A member of the youth ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona piqued the attentions of the club’s first-team coaching staff with his performances this past season.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who highlight Jan Virgili as the player in question.
Youngster Virgili for his part made the move to Catalunya’s capital last summer, from Spanish outfit Nastic.
The attacker, who primarily operates on the left wing, initially linked up with Barcelona’s U19s, but his impressive performances quickly culminated in a jump to Barca Atlètic.
After joining the Blaugrana’s reserve outfit for the 2nd half of the campaign, Virgili managed a solid record of four goals and two assists in 17 appearances.
And such exploits, as alluded to above, could soon give rise to another step up the ladder in Catalunya.
As per a report from Sport:
‘His progression has been so beastly that he has ended up attracting the attention of the coach of the first team, Hansi Flick. In fact, there was a meeting with Flick in which he told Virgili that he was counting on him for pre-season.’
Virgili, in turn, will be afforded the chance to impress at senior level upon Barcelona’s squad reconvening at The Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on July 13th.
The 18-year-old will be joined by the likes of Pedro Fernández, Juan Hernández, Ibrahim Diarra, Toni Fernández, Guille Fernández and Jofre Torrents in joining Hansi Flick’s ranks for pre-season.
