Barcelona youngster to stay with first-team this season

The coaching staff at La Liga giants Barcelona have made the call to afford a permanent first-team berth to an up-and-coming member of the club’s defensive ranks.

The Blaugrana starlet primed for an altogether more high-profile role this coming season? Brian Fariñas.

Fariñas, for those not familiar with his name, is a 20-year-old midfielder, long tipped as a potential future star in the making. Last season, on the books of Barca Atlètic, the Spaniard turned heads with a haul of 12 direct goal contributions from his berth in the middle of the park.

This production culminated in a call for senior training with Hansi Flick’s star-studded Blaugrana squad for pre-season this summer. And as alluded to above, Fariñas has since gone on to take full advantage of the opportunity afforded to him…

As per a report from Barcelona insider Carlos Monfort, writing for Diario Sport:

‘Barring any unexpected twist, Brian Fariñas will stay with Barça’s first team. Deco and Flick have already conveyed their intention to him after halting his move to Girona. They believe he can contribute a lot to the rotation.’
