Barcelona youngster suffers untimely injury setback

A member of the youth ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week been dealt an altogether untimely blow on the fitness front.

This comes amid confirmation that Aleix Garrido has been forced under the knife once more.

Midfielder Garrido, for his part, was expected to play a prominent role in Barcelona’s pre-season endeavours, hopeful of catching the eye of new first-team manager Hansi Flick.

It therefore marked a source of concern when the 20-year-old was nowhere to be seen in the Blaugrana’s first training session under Flick’s watch on Thursday.

An explanation for as much, in turn, has since been forthcoming.

And, unfortunately for those of a Barca persuasion, it is of an altogether less than positive nature…

As per a statement across the Catalan club’s website and social media platforms, Garrido this week underwent fresh surgery, to deal with a recurrence of a foot injury suffered earlier this year:

‘The Barça Atlètic player, Aleix Garrido, has undergone successful surgical intervention for a relapse of the fifth metatarsal fracture of his left foot. Its evolution will determine his availability.’
