A member of the reserve team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week opened up on his admiration for Blaugrana first-team star Frenkie de Jong.
Midfielder De Jong is for his part of course in the midst of a remarkable resurgence in the colours of Barcelona.
So long tipped for a departure from Catalunya’s capital, the Dutchman has made use of the arrival of Hansi Flick on the touchline to relaunch his career.
Alongside Pedri, De Jong on a weekly basis controls proceedings from his berth at the base of Barca’s engine room.
Touch, dribbling, passing, vision and defensive nous, the former Ajax man boasts the complete package of a modern midfielder.
And as alluded to above, such traits have proven enough for De Jong to position himself as something of a reference in the eyes of Blaugrana talent Tommy Marqués.
Speaking to the media, in quotes cited by Diario Sport, over the weekend, Barca Atlètic midfielder Tommy explained:
“I really like Frenkie de Jong from the first-team. I think he has things that… He has a profile quite similar to mine and I pay a lot of attention to him. And if I have to say somebody from before, I would say Busquets, who is a reference.”
