Barcelona win the Women’s Champions League for the second time

The Barcelona women’s team lifted the Champions League trophy on Saturday, after beating Wolfsburg 3-2. This is Barça Femení’s second Champions League triumph, having won it in 2021.

The Catalan club started the game slowly, with Polish striker Ewa Pajor putting Wolfsburg ahead in the third minute. Alexandra Popp doubled the lead for the German club, and they went into the interval with a healthy 2-0 lead.

Everything changed in the second half, however. Barcelona came out energetic and on top. Midfielder Patricia Guijarro scored a brace to level the game, then in the 70th minute, Fridolina Rolfö made history for Barça Femení. A shot from the centre of the box nestled into the top corner, and Barcelona were winners of the Champions League for the second time.

Lyon have lifted the trophy six times in the last eight years, and Barcelona are the only other team to have won it in that period.
