The attentions of those in the boardroom at La Liga champions Barcelona have on Wednesday been piqued, after departing Manchester City star Bernardo Silva altered his plans for the summer transfer window.
Portuguese international Bernardo has of course taken his place front and centre in the transfer chatter surrounding Barcelona for several weeks now.
This comes after widespread confirmation was forthcoming that the 32-year-old has emerged as a leading target to reinforce Hansi Flick’s squad for next season.
Bernardo is considered a major market opportunity, set to be available as a free agent following the expiration of his Man City contract.
With the midfielder having made clear that his intention was to define his club future before the upcoming World Cup, the expectation was that a deal with Barca would be announced any day now.
As alluded to above, however, this will in fact not be the case.
As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano, citing a conversation with Bernardo’s agent, Jorge Mendes:
‘Bernardo Silva changes plans and will decide his future after the World Cup. Initial plan was before World Cup but Silva understands nothing is done yet and now plans to focus on Portugal.’
