Barcelona to sell two central defenders in the summer: Who could go and who will stay?

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona are ready to part with two members of the club’s central defensive ranks, this coming summer.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have today provided an insight into the latest ongoings behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

The Barca brass, it is claimed, have come to the conclusion that their best route towards raising needed funds to utilise on incomings with a view to next season is through sales at centre-half.

As much comes due to an ‘overbooking’ in the position.

As things stand, only two of the Blaugrana’s current crop of stoppers are guaranteed to remain, in the form of Ronald Araújo, and Pau Cubarsí.

This leaves all of Andreas Christensen, Jules Koundé and íñigo Martínez, as well as the potentially returning trio of Eric García, Clement Lenglet, and Chadi Riad.

Of these six, most likely to be on the move is Clement Lenglet, whilst the permanent sale of Eric García will also be sanctioned, in the case of an acceptable offer arriving for his services.

Chadi Riad could yet be integrated into the first-team setup in Catalunya, whilst íñigo Martínez is unlikely to be sold, owing to his age and short-term contract.

This means that any and all offers for key pair Christensen and Koundé will be taken into consideration, with Deco and co. aware of Premier League interest in both, and desperate for a noteworthy cash injection.

Though the duo have already made crystal clear their intent to remain beyond the summer, as much therefore simply cannot be guaranteed as things stand.
