Barcelona to pay over 80% of on-loan star’s wages next season

La Liga giants Barcelona will continue to pay the vast majority of Marc-André ter Stegen’s wages for the season ahead. This comes despite the fact that the German is on the verge of a move away from Catalunya’s capital.

Goalkeeper Ter Stegen has of course long been tipped for a fresh Barcelona departure. After spending the 2nd half of last season plying his trade with Girona, the 34-year-old remains well down the pecking order between the posts in Hansi Flick’s squad.

Dutch heavyweights Ajax, in turn, recently opened talks over a year-long loan deal of their own for Ter Stegen.

These discussions are understood to be in the final stretch, with only minor details remaining to be ironed out between the parties.

As alluded to above, though, despite the fact that he will be plying his trade in the colours of another of European football’s heavyweights in 2026/27, Ter Stegen’s wages will still be almost entirely covered by Barcelona.

As per a report from Jijantes, cited by Diario Sport:

‘Ajax will only assume between 10% and 15% of the German goalkeeper’s current salary.’
