Barcelona to miss out as veteran attacker ‘on the verge’ of extending contract

La Liga giants Barcelona look set to miss out on a player heavily linked with the club over recent weeks.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Ivan Perisić as the player in question.

The name of wide-man Perišić of course emerged as a prominent one in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital earlier this month.

This came after surprise reports linking Barcelona with a move for the Croatian international were forthcoming in the media.

Perišić is fresh off an impressive campaign on the books of PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, which saw the 36-year-old rack up 16 goals and 11 assists.

Familiar with the experienced attacker’s abilities owing to their time spent together at Bayern Munich, Hansi Flick, in turn, was said to have directly requested Perišić’s free agent signing.

As alluded to above, however, if the latest word stemming from the media on Thursday is anything to go by, then Perišić, instead, looks all set to stay put at PSV.

As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano:

‘Ivan Perisić, on the verge of signing new deal at PSV Eindhoven! The Croatian winger has accepted the conditions for new two-year deal, final small details to be clarified then sealed. Barça inquired about Perisić but their focus is on Nico (Williams). Perisić, set to stay.’
