La Liga giants Barcelona terminated the contract terms of a member of the club’s midfield ranks in the buildup to this week’s transfer deadline.
That’s according to Marca, who point towards Oriol Romeu as the player in question.
Midfielder Romeu for his part secured a return to base in Barcelona earlier this summer.
As much came after the 33-year-old spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan with the Blaugrana’s Catalan rivals, Girona.
After it was quickly made clear to Romeu that he did not feature in the plans of Hansi Flick for the season ahead, though, Deco and co. set about finding a new home for the former Southampton man.
In the end, no such suitor was found.
And as alluded to above, this lack of interest culminated in Romeu’s contract being silently terminated over recent days.
The Spaniard, in turn, now finds himself on the lookout for another club, as he enters the twilight years of his career.
