Barcelona summer signing endures nightmare debut

A summer addition to the reserve setup at La Liga giants Barcelona endured something of a debut to forget with the club late this week.

The player in question? Roger Martínez.

Midfielder Martínez for his part put pen to paper on terms with Barcelona late last month. This came after the 21-year-old made the call to depart Catalan rivals Espanyol upon the expiration of his contract.

Martínez has since gone on to link up with Juliano Belletti’s Barca Atlètic, tipped for a leading role across the season ahead.

Safe to say, however, that the youngster’s Blaugrana stint could not have gotten off to a much worse start…

Martínez was afforded his debut for his new club this weekend, in a pre-season friendly meeting with L’Escala.

En route to an eventual 1-0 defeat, though, the talented engine room starlet was forced into a premature departure from the action.

This, according to Diario Sport, came owing to a shoulder injury, the extent of which will be made clear by an upcoming round of medical tests over the days ahead.
