Barcelona starlet follows cousin by signing new contract

Another highly-regarded up-and-coming member of the youth ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Thursday penned fresh terms with the club.

The player in question? Guille Fernández.

For those not familiar with his name, Guille is a gifted 16-year-old midfielder, who has been learning his trade in La Masia since back in 2018.

The Spaniard has long been tipped as a potential star in the making behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital, with his exploits last season having even seen Guille replace Lamine Yamal as the youngest player ever to debut with Barça Atlètic.

A number of clubs from across not only Spain, but the continent as a whole, in turn, are understood to have been expressing a keen interest in the services of the midfield starlet with a view to next season.

As alluded to above, however, Guille will be going nowhere any time soon.

As per a report from Diario Sport, citing an official release on the part of Barcelona:

‘The player Guillermo Fernández has signed in the presence of the director Joan Soler and the director of Youth Football, José Ramon Alexanco, the continuity in the Club in his youth stage. Thank you Fernández-Casino family for trusting La Masia for the training of your son as a player and a person.’

Guille’s fresh Blaugrana terms run through the summer of 2027.

Interestingly, news of as much comes just days on from the 16-year-old’s cousin, Toni Fernández, also committing his future to Barca by way of penning a new contract.
