Barcelona president Joan Laporta has already made the call to offer a new contract to defender Andreas Christensen.
That’s according to Blaugrana insider Santi Ovalle, who revealed as much during an appearance on Cadena SER early this week.
The name of stopper Christensen has of course taken its place centre stage in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the last 24 hours.
As much comes after confirmation of a fresh injury setback for the Dane was confirmed.
Christensen is facing up to a lengthy incoming spell on the sidelines, after suffering a partial tear of the ACL in his left knee.
Ahead of the expiration of his contract terms at the Spotify Camp Nou next summer, it therefore looked more certain than ever that the former Chelsea man would be allowed to depart on a free transfer.
As per the aforementioned Santi Ovalle, however:
“He will be away for a while but Laporta’s first thing to do is to propose his renewal. Good gesture from the president.”
