The board at La Liga giants Barcelona are ready to afford a surprise contract extension to a member of the club’s defensive ranks.
This comes amid the understanding that the call has been made to renew Andreas Christensen’s terms.
Stopper Christensen, as things stand, is due to depart Barcelona as a free agent upon the season’s close.
The Dane is for his part in the midst of another difficult season to date, riddled with injuries, and still some way off establishing himself as first-choice under Hansi Flick’s watch.
Upon Christensen being sidelined long-term once more late last year, the widespread expectation was in turn that the former Chelsea man would simply be allowed to run down his contract terms before moving on in the summer.
It has therefore come as a major surprise to learn of the latest plans of the Spotify Camp Nou brass…
As per a report from journalist Alfredo Martinez on ‘X’:
‘Barcelona will renew for 1 more season with Christensen, whose contract was ending on June 30. He is 29 years old and is a player very much to the liking of the coaching staff. Additionally, the fact that he was injured almost until the end of the season morally means that the club should make a gesture.’
