Barcelona star rejects Man of the Match award after win over Real Madrid: ‘I don’t deserve it’

Barcelona star Raphinha made clear his feelings that he did not deserve the Man of the Match award for the club’s latest outing.

Barcelona were of course back in action on Sunday evening, playing host to arch rivals Real Madrid in a top-of-the-table La Liga showdown.

When all was said and done, the Blaugrana emerged triumphant once more, making it four wins from four in El Clásico this season courtesy of a 4-3 result.

And the aforementioned Raphinha proved himself a leading figure in as much.

Amid what has been nothing short of a spectacular individual campaign to date, the Brazilian notched a crucial brace against Real Madrid, first drawing Barca level at 3-3, before netting the decisive 4th late in the first-half.

Such efforts culminated in Raphinha being handed the Man of the Match award on the back of the full-time whistle at Montjuïc.

As alluded to above, however, of the opinion that he was not at all deserving of the trophy was the former Leeds United man himself.

Speaking to the media post-match this evening, Raphinha explained:

“I didn’t play well today. I don’t deserve the Man of the Match award. I would have given it to someone else.”
