Barcelona star ‘prefers’ to be a substitute than to play

Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny derives greater enjoyment from watching on as a spectator than taking to the pitch himself.

That’s according to the Pole’s brother, who this week opened up on the situation.

In quotes cited by El Chiringuito TV, Jan Szczęsny explained:

“He’s always ready, but he prefers to be a spectator rather than a participant. He’s played in the most important matches, so it’s time for the youngsters.”

Szczęsny is for his part fresh off a difficult outing between the posts for Barcelona on Wednesday night.

Afforded his latest start amid the ongoing injury-enforced absence Joan García, the former Arsenal and Juventus man conceded three times, en route to a Champions League draw with Belgian outfit Club Brugge.

Dating back to late September, Szczęsny has in turn not managed a single clean sheet across eight appearances.

His latest chance to do so will come this weekend, when Barcelona lock horns with Celta Vigo in a La Liga clash.
