A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga leaders Barcelona played through a bout of illness during the club’s meeting with Real Madrid.
That’s according to journalist Helena Condis, who points towards Pau Cubarsí as the player in question.
Defender Cubarsí, for his part, was in from the off this evening, joining Iñigo Martínez at the heart of Barcelona’s defence for the season’s final edition of El Clásico.
En route to an eventual 4-3 Blaugrana triumph, however, the 18-year-old was hooked from proceedings early in the 2nd-half.
After going to ground in evident discomfort off the ball, it immediately became clear that Cubarsí was in no condition to continue, hauled off by manager Hansi Flick as a result.
As much, in turn, gave rise to immediate concerns surrounding a potential injury for the stopper.
As alluded to above, however, those of a Barca persuasion need not fret.
This comes amid confirmation on the part of the aforementioned Helena Condis that:
‘Today Cubarsí played with a stomach virus. That’s why he was substituted: he wasn’t feeling well due to the virus. There’s no injury.’
