Barcelona star Gavi has this week provided his take on the ongoing battle for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.
The subject of the next ‘Golden Ball’ has of course dominated the headlines across Europe over the course of recent days.
This comes after a change at the top was noted, owing to developments in the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.
After Ousmane Dembélé played a starring role en route to the former’s 5-0 rout, the Frenchman was positioned by many as the new favourite to be named world football’s best player.
Dembélé’s main competition for the award comes in the form of his long-term replacement at Barcelona, in the form of Lamine Yamal.
Speaking to the media early this week, the subject of the Ballon d’Or race was therefore put to a player who has spent time lining out alongside both players.
During an interview with Catalunya Ràdio’s ‘Tot Costa’, as cited by Diario Sport, Gavi appeared to give the edge to Lamine, in responding:
“Ballon d’Or? Dembélé is like my brother and he had a great season. For me, he should absolutely be in the top three, and I will be really happy for him. However, Lamine’s season is unique…”
