Barcelona star names 3rd teammate as candidate for Ballon d’Or

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong was keen to highlight the name of another Blaugrana teammate, when drawn on the Ballon d’Or race this week.

The player in question? Pedri.

Youngster Pedri has of course seen his name take its place centre stage in the headlines across Europe over the last 24 hours.

As much comes after the Spanish international produced a wonderful individual display in Barcelona’s Champions League opener against Newcastle United.

Such performances have become a near weekly occurrence on Pedri’s part at this point, with the 22-year-old standing out as the most consistent player in Hansi Flick’s squad.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of last night’s matchup, midfield partner Frenkie de Jong therefore made use of the opportunity to single Pedri out as one of world football’s very best.

Drawn on the respective candidacies of teammates Lamine Yamal and Raphinha for the soon-to-be announced Ballon d’Or, De Jong’s first response was to note:

“Pedri is also there, right? He’s there too.”
