Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny was responsible for nothing short of a remarkable feat in the club’s defeat to Real Madrid on Sunday.
This comes amid confirmation that the Pole received a 9.6 match rating on the part of statisticians Sofascore.
Szczęsny was for his part in from the off once more yesterday evening, as Barcelona made the trip to Spain’s capital to take on Real Madrid.
Amid the ongoing absence of Joan García, the former Arsenal and Juventus man was entrusted with taking his place between the posts for the season’s first El Clásico.
And though Barca were ultimately condemned to the wrong side of a 2-1 result, Szczęsny enjoyed a fine evening’s work.
Over the course of the 90 minutes, the shot-stopper time and time again prevented Real Madrid from running away with the result, courtesy of a number of fine saves.
All told, he racked up nine such stops, including a particularly brilliant one from a Kylian Mbappé penalty.
And as alluded to above, such excellence has since been aptly recognised by the statistics.
As revealed by Sofascore, Szczęsny recorded the highest match rating (9.6) by any Barcelona player in an El Clásico fixture since all the way back in 2017.
