Barcelona star given standing ovation for performance vs Athletic Club

The home crowd in attendance at La Liga champions Barcelona’s meeting with Athletic Club on Saturday came together to make crystal clear their appreciation for the efforts of one player.

The individual in question? Eric García.

Defender Eric was for his part in from the off once again this evening, as Barcelona marked their post-international break return to action in a meeting with the aforementioned Athletic.

And en route to a comfortable three-point haul for the Blaugrana, the 24-year-old carried forth what has been a stellar individual campaign to date.

Amid the personnel crisis in Hansi Flick’s midfield ranks at present, Eric was tasked with stepping forward into a more advanced role in the middle of the park.

And the former Manchester City man again made clear to boss Flick and his staff that he can be trusted to perform in more or less any position on the pitch.

Unflappable in possession and with his defensive nous a bonus on the other side of the ball, Eric proved himself one of Barcelona’s star performers over the course of the 90 minutes.

So much so that, upon his number flashing across the fourth official’s board indicating that his evening had come to an end late on, the crowd rose to their feet as one, to afford Eric a well-earned standing ovation.
