La Liga giants Barcelona look set to see their efforts to add to the club’s midfield ranks before the summer window slams shut come up short.
This comes amid confirmation that Barca’s leading engine room transfer target is all set to head elsewhere.
Securing reinforcements in the middle of the park has of course reemerged as something of a priority at the Camp Nou over the course of the last 24 hours.
This comes after medical scans confirmed that youngster Marc Bernal has suffered an ACL tear in his left knee.
Deco and co, as a result, have begun scouring the market, for a low-cost replacement for a player who featured from the off in each of Barcelona’s first three La Liga fixtures of the term.
One such option quickly identified by the Blaugrana, meanwhile, came in the form of Liverpool starlet Stefan Bajcetic.
In fact, on Wednesday, the Catalans went as far as to table a proposal to their counterparts at Anfield, to bring the 19-year-old in on a dry loan.
Any such move, however, is considered as highly unlikely to come to fruition.
This comes amid confirmation on the part of a number of sources, including Spanish transfer insider Matteo Moretto, that Bajcetic is all set to make the move to Austria, with Red Bull Salzburg.
