Barcelona respond to claims sporting director Deco is considering departure

La Liga giants Barcelona have on Sunday responded to claims that a leading member of the boardroom at the club is considering his future.

This comes on the back of something of a bombshell report on the part of Diario Sport, who pointed towards Deco as the Barca staff member in question.

Former Blaugrana midfielder Deco is of course for his part fresh off a difficult summer behind the scenes at the Camp Nou.

This comes with the ongoing financial woes at the club having heavily restricted the ability of the Portuguese to reinforce new head coach Hansi Flick’s squad.

Despite links with a whole host of high-profile players from across the continent, in the end, Barcelona were only able to bring in Dani Olmo, and Pau Víctor.

In turn, it did not come as a major surprise, on Sunday, when word was forthcoming in the media that Deco was beginning to become unsettled.

The aforementioned Sport, in fact, went as far as to suggest that he is giving serious consideration to vacating his role:

‘The internal machinery of Barcelona has exhausted Deco who, disappointed with his financial limitations and because the president has not been able to keep his promises, is now considering what to do with his professional life. Deco has had a complicated experience as a sporting director and is not sure about his continuity at FC Barcelona. He has told friends and agents of his desire to leave the position.’

It has not taken at all long, however, for such claims to be completely shut down.

In a further update on the situation on the part of ESPN’s Samuel Marsden, citing inside sources at the Camp Nou, Barcelona have ‘categorically denied’ that Deco is on the fence regarding his future.
