The powers that be at Spanish giants Barcelona have moved to shut down claims surrounding the potential return of Mateu Alemany to the club.
This comes fresh off media reports pointing towards the Blaugrana pushing for as much with a view to next season.
Diario Sport, on Monday, stated that the powers that be behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital recently held a meeting with Alemany, over the possibility of a reunion.
Spaniard Alemany, for his part, held the post of sporting director at Barcelona from 2021, through to last September.
After first agreeing to extend his stint with the club through the current season, the 60-year-old later opted to step down from his post with immediate effect, owing to the level of control afforded to Deco.
Amid the ongoing chaos both on the pitch and behind the scenes in Barcelona at present, however, it did not come as a major surprise to see word spreading that Joan Laporta was mounting a campaign for Alemany’s return.
But, as alluded to above, on Monday evening, as much has been vehemently denied.
As per journalist Gerard Romero, Barcelona have issued a firm denial that the ‘meeting’ in question, during which Alemany’s comeback was allegedly discussed, ever took place.
Deco’s job, for the time being at least, therefore appears to be safe.
