Barcelona & Real Madrid release statements in response to tragic death of Liverpool’s Diogo Jota

Spanish football’s two biggest clubs have on Thursday evening issued statements, in response to the sudden passing of Liverpool star Diogo Jota.

The name of attacker Jota has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines across world football over the course of the day to date.

This comes after word was forthcoming that the Portuguese had been involved in a fatal car accident in Spain.

In a statement across their official website and social media platforms, Barca wrote:

‘FC Barcelona would like to express their sincerest condolences regarding the loss of Liverpool FC player Diogo Jota and his brother André. May they rest in peace.’

And Real Madrid have since followed suit with the following release of their own:

‘Real Madrid CF, its president and Board of Directors are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Liverpool FC player Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who played for FC Penafiel. Real Madrid expresses its condolences and support to their family, loved ones and teammates at their respective clubs. Real Madrid shares in the deep sorrow felt by the footballing world.
