The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona are prepared to sanction the sale of a member of the club’s defensive ranks following the turn of the year.
That’s according to Fichajes, who point towards Ronald Araújo as the player in question.
Stopper Araújo is for his part of course fresh off an outing to forget this past weekend.
Restored to Barcelona’s starting XI for a La Liga meeting with Sevilla, the Uruguayan was responsible for giving away a needless penalty during the first-half.
Hansi Flick, in turn, made the call to haul Araújo off with just 45 minutes on the clock.
This carried forth what has long been a hit-and-miss run of form on the part of the 26-year-old, who all too often follows up stout defensive showings with shaky ones.
And as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then such inconsistency could soon cost Araújo his place in Hansi Flick’s squad.
As per a report from Fichajes:
‘FC Barcelona has already launched its strategy to offload Ronald Araujo, setting a starting price of around € 40 million. The Blaugrana board believes his current performance does not justify keeping him in the squad if an immediate profit can be achieved.’
The report, in fact, goes as far as to suggest that ‘the defender is expected to leave in the January transfer window’.
