Barcelona ready to request Robert Lewandowski wage cut

The Barcelona hierarchy are giving serious consideration to asking frontman Robert Lewandowski to agree to a pay cut.

That’s according to Sport, who have provided a fresh insight into the Blaugrana’s ongoing efforts to balance their books.

President Joan Laporta has long insisted publicly that Barca intend to operate as normal in the upcoming 2024 summer transfer window.

But, to assure as much, one or more members of Xavi Hernández’s squad may well be asked to sacrifice.

The aforementioned Lewandowski, meanwhile, is at the top of the list.

Polish international Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a Camp Nou departure of late, amid a stretch of concerning form in front of goal.

The veteran attacker, though, has every intention of seeing out the entirety of his Barcelona contract, potentially set to run as far as 2026.

Over this span, his wages are set to increase even further, leaving Laporta and Co. facing up to the prospect of an aging, and under-performing ‘Lewa’ standing alone as the club’s highest earner.

In turn, the intention is to open negotiations with the former Bayern Munich man, to gauge his willingness to lower his salary.

The hope is that agent Pini Zahavi, with whom the Catalans maintain an excellent relationship, could prove pivotal in convincing Lewandowski of the merits of as much.
