Barcelona ready to battle Real Madrid for Gilberto Mora signing

La Liga champions Barcelona have this weekend been credited with a fresh interest in the signature of Mexican sensation Gilberto Mora.

This comes amid confirmation that the Blaugrana have had their attentions piqued by the player’s performances at the U20 World Cup.

Mora, for his part, is an attacking midfielder/forward who is currently plying his trade in his home country of Mexico.

Despite being just 16 years of age, the starlet is already an established first-team player at Club Tijuana, with four direct goal contributions in eight Liga MX appearances to his name thus far this season.

Not only that, but he has been capped on three occasions by Mexico at senior level.

With such remarkable exploits at such a young age is always likely to come outside interest, in particular from across the water in Europe.

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of such interest beginning to mount this week.

With Mora continuing to shine at the U20 World Cup with Mexico (two goals and an assist in two appearances), Spanish champions Barcelona have seen their names again linked with that of the prodigious youngster.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:

‘His great performances with the tricolor have placed this young prospect on the radar of major European teams, among which Barça has been linked again in recent hours. This is not the first time that the Blaugrana club has been mentioned as one of his suitors.’

To say that Barcelona face stiff competition in the race for Mora’s services would be putting it lightly, though, with all of Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City, Ajax and arch rivals Real Madrid also firmly in the hunt for a player boasting the talent to define a generation.
