Barcelona have been dealt a blow in their ongoing pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen player Florian Wirtz.
That’s according to Sport, who have provided an insight into the hotly-contested race for the midfield starlet.
Barca are long-term admirers of Wirtz’s talents, who has been identified as a prime target amid the club’s ongoing search for added creativity in the final third.
Not only that, but it is claimed that the 20-year-old has already spoken to his representatives, regarding the possibility of making the move to the Catalan club.
This comes with Wirtz’s long-time ‘dream’ to take to the pitch in Barca’s colours.
The chances of as much actually coming to fruition, however, look slim to none as things stand.
As per Sport’s report, Leverkusen have set their asking price for the club’s prized possession at a whopping €100m.
A move to the Premier League is therefore viewed as the most likely outcome for Wirtz, with the Barcelona brass having concluded that ‘the economic operation is impossible’.
