Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta: “We have to wait for Eric García.”

Barcelona presidential candidate, Joan Laporta, admitted that the club will not sign Manchester City defender Eric García in the January transfer window.

After an almost two-hour meeting with the interim managing committee president, Carles Tusquets, and the three FC Barcelona presidential candidates (Joan Laporta, Víctor Font and Toni Freixa) on Friday night, the club set, in principle, March 7 as the new date for the elections to take place.

With no new president in place for the current transfer window, it is now clear that the club won’t go for City’s young Spanish defender.

“We cannot give the seal of approval to the interim management committee to make decisions,” Laporta said after the meeting in the club’s offices on Friday. “We have concluded that if he [Eric García] is a player that is due to finish his contract, we have to wait. Now we would have to pay the transfer on top of the player’s salary.”
