Barcelona president Joan Laporta outlines January transfer plans

An update on Barcelona’s transfer strategy ahead of the January transfer window has been provided by the club’s president Joan Laporta.

Barca are in a difficult situation at the moment and are without a win in their last three games in all competitions. At the weekend they thought that their poor run of form was coming to an end when Portugal international Joao Félix gave them the lead against Valencia just before the hour mark.

However, Hugo Guillamon equalised for Los Che and the visitors dropped points again. Manager Xavi Hernández now turns his side’s attention to the crucial match against Almeria on Wednesday where his team cannot afford to lose even more ground on La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

It has already been confirmed that forward Vitor Roque will now join the Catalan club for around €40m in January rather than the summer, however, the Blaugrana’s poor run of form has led to speculation about the club needing further reinforcements in the winter transfer window.

As reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Laporta will allow Xavi to strengthen his squad as long as they are in line with the financial regulations.

He said: “We are planning for Vitor Roque’s arrival at the end of December or the beginning of January, we want Vitor here as soon as possible. Deco told me that he’s an excellent talent so we expect him to help us a lot.

“If we’ll have space with Fair Play, our plan remains to sign a midfielder in January — it will be a loan.

“We’d replicate what we did with Edgar Davids some years ago.”
