Barcelona legend votes against Joan Laporta in presidential election

Barcelona legend Xavi Hernández has on Saturday grabbed the headlines across Catalunya’s capital.

This comes after the ex-midfielder cast his vote for the next president of the Blaugrana.

The election process at the Spotify Camp Nou is of course currently ongoing, after Joan Laporta and his board stepped down from their respective roles earlier this month.

The Spanish patron has since immediately kicked into gear his bid for reelection, standing as the clear favourite to take his place back at the summit of the Barcelona boardroom.

Laporta’s main competition, as proved the case back in 2021, is Víctor Font.

And of the opinion that the latter is the superior candidate, and in turn more deserving of the role of Barca presidency, is the aforementioned Xavi.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘Xavi has gone to the electoral headquarters of Font. He has done so in the company of his partner, Núria Cunillera, and his parents. The four have given their signature to Víctor Font.’

Xavi’s lack of support for Joan Laporta comes with the relationship between the pair remaining frayed following the former’s controversial dismissal from the Barcelona bench back in 2024.
