Barcelona icon Andrés Iniesta has this week opened up on his admiration for the player whom many consider to be the Spaniard’s heir in Catalunya’s capital – Pedri.
Midfielder Pedri is fresh off another starring performance this past weekend, notching his first goal of the campaign en route to Barca’s 5-0 La Liga drubbing of Valencia.
The former Las Palmas talent is of course now also able to claim himself a world champion, following the Spanish national team’s triumph at the World Cup in North America this summer.
At just 23 years of age, Pedri has the world at his feet, already boasting a trophy cabinet filled with titles, and widely considered one of football’s very best in his position.
Speaking during an interview with Marca (as cited by Diario Sport) this week, the aforementioned Andrés Iniesta was therefore drawn on the name of his former club’s engine room maestro.
And the Gulf United head coach did not hold back in his praise for Pedri, explaining:
“He is a player who if you get in front of the TV you are amazed by what he does, with how easy he does it, with the simplicity, with the naturalness he does it.
“Pedri is an extraordinary footballer. I love it because it has a story behind it full of work and self-improvement. And it has, above all, its own history. That he said that I was his childhood idol is something precious. That he was looking at my game. A reference. Who doesn’t like to hear something like that.”
