Barcelona ‘keeping contact’ with Atlético Madrid’s latest midfield target

Barcelona could yet rival fellow La Liga giants Atlético Madrid for the signing of a big-name midfielder before the summer is out.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards N’Golo Kanté as the player in question.

The name of France international Kanté has of course returned to the forefront of the Spanish media headlines on Tuesday.

This comes amid confirmation that the aforementioned Atlético Madrid have set their sights on the signature of the former Chelsea man.

With Kanté understood to be eyeing a move away from Saudi Arabia, the Rojiblancos have earmarked the Al-Ittihad man as a potential low-cost, high-reward addition.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word to have surfaced late on Tuesday evening is anything to go by, then Atléti may not have it all their own way in the fight for Kanté’s signature.

This comes with Barcelona, too, keeping a close eye on the situation of the 33-year-old.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘The Blaugrana club are keeping in contact with N’Golo Kanté, a player who wants to leave Saudi Arabia and who has been interested in several teams. Barça has positioned itself in case it is necessary to act at the last minute.’
