Barcelona injury update: Marc-André ter Stegen, João Cancelo & Andreas Christensen

Updates on the wellbeing of three key members of Barcelona’s first-team setup have today been forthcoming online.

The subject of injuries, of course, has taken its place centre stage in the chatter in Catalunya’s capital over the course of the season to date.

This comes as Xavi’s squad continues to be ravaged by a whole host of personnel problems.

Thus far in 2023/24, the likes of Marc-André ter Stegen, Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen, Iñigo Martínez, João Cancelo, Sergi Roberto, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi and Raphinha have all been sidelined at one point or another.

Safe to say, then, that all associated with Barcelona could at long last do with some positive news on the injury front.

And, on Tuesday, precisely that has been forthcoming.

As per a report from Diario Sport, Barca are close to welcoming back two integral members of the club’s defensive ranks.

Those in question? João Cancelo and Andreas Christensen.

After respective recent spells on the treatment table, the two stoppers are said to be progressing well in their recoveries.

‘Optimism’ is therefore abound that both will be available for selection when the Blaugrana make the trip to San Mamés for a Copa del Rey quarter-final meeting with Athletic Club on Wednesday night.

And the positive news stemming from Barcelona does not end there…

This comes with shot-stopper Marc-André ter Stegen also closing on a long-awaited return to first-team action.

After being named Goalkeeper of the Year at the Mundo Deportivo gala on Monday, Ter Stegen was asked for the latest on his injury recovery.

And the German international went on to reveal that he is on track to make his comeback in around a fortnight’s time:

“I can be ready in two weeks. I have good feelings.”
