Barcelona hold talks over move for Gonçalo Oliveira

The transfer team at La Liga giants Barcelona this week held a meeting over a potential deal for an up-and-coming member of the youth ranks at Portuguese outfit Benfica.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Gonçalo Oliveira as the player in question.

Oliveira, for his part, is a 19-year-old defender who chiefly operates in a central role.

The youngster has long been making waves at reserve level with Benfica, culminating in regular call-ups at senior level in Lisbon.

Oliveira is widely considered to be a potential star in the making across his home country of Portugal.

And if the latest word stemming from the media on Thursday is anything to go by, then word of the stopper’s talents appears to have made its way to Spain, too.

As per a report from Sport, Barcelona sporting director Deco this week held a meeting with Portuguese agents Carlos Gonçalves and Antonio Casanova, from the Pro Eleven agency.

As much came with a view to learning more about Oliveira’s situation, ahead of a potential future Blaugrana swoop for the Benfica prodigy.
