The brass at La Liga champions Barcelona have earmarked their leading transfer target for the summer of 2026.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Julián Alvarez as the player in question.
The name of frontman Alvarez has of course dominated the headlines across Spanish football over the last week.
This comes after the Argentine conjured up nothing short of a spectacular pair of performances.
After first netting all three Atlético Madrid goals in a 3-2 win over Rayo Vallecano, Alvarez followed up with a brace en route to a 5-2 triumph in the Madrid Derby.
And as alluded to above, such ongoing excellence has evidently not gone unnoticed amongst those behind the scenes at Barcelona.
As per a report from Sport, amid an ongoing search for a long-term replacement for the aging Robert Lewandowski:
‘FC Barcelona are clear that Julián Alvarez is their number 1 target for the next summer market.’
Barca already expressed a keen interest in Alvarez during his time at Manchester City, and despite the difficulties involved in working out a deal with Atlético, Joan Laporta and co. appear ready to reignite their pursuit.
