Barcelona forced to fork over another €5m to Las Palmas for Pedri

Barcelona will soon be obliged to sanction another €5 million payment to La Liga rivals Las Palmas.

This comes after a clause in the contract of midfield starlet Pedri was activated during Barca’s Copa del Rey meeting with Athletic Club on Wednesday.

As per a report from Relevo, the San Mamés clash marked Pedri’s 100th in Blaugrana colours, since taking his talents to Catalunya back in the summer of 2020.

For fixtures to count towards this tally, as per the terms of the agreement between Barcelona and Las Palmas, the now-21-year-old was required to feature for at least 45 minutes.

With Pedri having logged just shy of 100 minutes against Athletic, the latter are as a result in line for another generous cash injection.

All told, this latest €5 million will take the fee paid out by Barca’s board for their engine room star to €27 million.

The only remaining financial clause in Pedri’s contract would now be activated in the case of the powers that be in Catalunya’s capital sanctioning a surprise sale, of which Las Palmas would be entitled to 15%.
