Supporters of La Liga giants Barcelona have on Sunday launched widespread calls for a member of the club’s defensive ranks to be afforded more consistent playing time.
The player in question? João Cancelo.
Barcelona are of course currently locked in action on the domestic front, in a La Liga meeting with Levante.
Hansi Flick’s troops headed into the matchup in the knowledge that a victory would guide them back clear of arch rivals Real Madrid to the summit of the Spanish top-flight table.
And as things stand, Barca find themselves headed towards precisely that, leading by two goals to nil.
Scorers Marc Bernal and Frenkie de Jong have grabbed the headlines for their respective exploits in front of goal, but it is the aforementioned João Cancelo who has been singled out for widespread praise by many of a Blaugrana persuasion.
Amid what has been a somewhat hit-and-miss start to life back in Catalunya’s capital for the Portuguese, he was afforded the chance to impress from the off on Sunday.
And Cancelo has since taken full advantage, shining on the ball, notching an assist, and garnering mounting calls for a consistent spot in Hansi Flick’s backline.
