Barcelona eye Amadou Onana as potential pivot option

One of Barcelona’s main priorities for next season is the signing of a pivot to control the midfield. A year after the departure of Sergio Busquets, the Catalan club is still looking for his replacement. Barcelona brought in Oriol Romeu as a stop-gap, as other options, such as Martín Zubimendi, Joshua Kimmich, and Sofyan Amrabat, were too expensive. However, the former Girona midfielder’s performances have not been up to scratch, and another signing is needed.

It is thought that there will be a large investment next summer to improve the squad, and one of the names being spoken about is that of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana. The 22-year-old is technically good and has the stature and profile that Barcelona are looking for, being 1.95 metres tall.

Those at Barcelona highly rate the Belgium international and is even considered a better option than Zubimendi, whose 60 million euro price tag is an obstacle. However, it is believed that Onana would not be a cheap option and may cost around 50 million euros. Marca is reporting that there has already been some contact but that no official negotiations have taken place, as the club will only be able to make a move for the midfielder next summer.
