Barcelona ‘exploring’ deal for Ballon d’Or winner

La Liga giants Barcelona are giving consideration to rivaling arch rivals Real Madrid in the race for Manchester City star Rodri.

This comes with the Blaugrana having been forced back into the market for midfield reinforcements. After Frenkie de Jong was discovered to have suffered a serious knee injury whilst with the Netherlands at the World Cup, the former Ajax man was last week condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines.

De Jong is expected to miss the opening months of the 2026/27 season as a result.

Short on options at the base of midfield with Marc Bernal’s fitness still a concern, the Camp Nou brass have in turn kickstarted a search for fresh blood on the market.

And amid their early scouring of the available options, one name to have come to the fore amongst Deco and his team of directors comes in the form of the aforementioned Rodri.

Widely expected to depart Manchester City this summer amid interest on the part of Real Madrid, Rodri is now also in the sights of the Blaugrana.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, citing journalist Oriol Domènech:

‘Barça have inquired about signing Rodri. He not only has excellent chemistry with his Barça teammates on the national team, but with a year left on his contract, he could leave City for a reasonable price.’
